Wind Uplift & Edge Attachment Screening

ASCE 7-16 low-rise components & cladding pressures on roof edges (h <= 60 ft, slope <= 7 deg), x2.0 for comparison with ES-1 tested capacity; documentation checklist; tested-assembly matching.

Method

Formulas

  • qh = 0.00256 Kz Kzt Kd Ke V^2 (Eq. 26.10-1), Kd = 0.85
  • Kz = 2.01 (z / zg)^(2 / alpha) (Table 26.10-1)
  • p = qh [(GCp) + (GCpi)] for outward load; roof zones 2/3, wall zones 4/5 (x0.9 for slope <= 10 deg)
  • Wall end-zone width a = min(0.1 x least horizontal dimension, 0.4h), not less than 0.04 x least horizontal dimension or 3 ft
  • Design pressure = p x 2.0 (ES-1)

Conventions

  • Edition, jurisdiction, risk category and wind speed source are recorded with every result.

Limits - what it will not do

  • ASCE 7-16 only; other editions are refused.
  • No fastener spacing and no "meets wind" statement.
  • A capacity is shown only for an exact match to a signed ES-1 test record; AFS has none loaded yet.
  • Exposure B below 30 ft is held at z = 30 ft (the ASCE 7-10 rule, kept as a conservative choice; ASCE 7-16 permits 15 ft). The reviewing engineer decides.
  • A parapet coping is evaluated at the parapet top height (ASCE 7-16 section 30.8): enter that height. Parapet zone relief is not applied.
  • Values marked Likely in the research (Exposure B/D alpha and zg; the wall 10% reduction) need PE confirmation.

Who must review it

  • Licensed structural engineer (PE): method, coefficients and applicability

Worked example

Inputs 115 mph, Exposure C, h = 60 ft, enclosed

Expected qh 32.7 psf; corner design 221.1 psf vertical, 94.2 psf horizontal

Checked by an automated test on every change.
