Ridge, trim and flashing for Horseshoe Bay jobs
Painted Kynar edges in the colors the architectural committee approves, with the submittal package to back them. Formed at our Burnet shop, picked up there or delivered to your site.
Ridge, hip, rake, eave, sidewall and counterflashing, coping, box gutters and trim, bent to your dimensions in the gauge and finish your panel spec calls for.
On a Horseshoe Bay re-roof or addition, the new rake, ridge and gutter have to match what the committee already approved. Snap the existing piece or a hand sketch with one tape measurement. We draw it in FlashDraft, confirm every dimension with you, and form it in the matching color.

Three things decide the flashing on Horseshoe Bay work. Here's what each one means for the metal, and the fastest way to get it made.
The condition
The architectural committee signs off first
Exterior work, re-roofs and color changes need committee approval before the City issues a permit. The Horseshoe Bay standards set hard rules for roof metal.
Roof colors LRV 35 or less; medium to dark browns and greys (§2.1.5 h)
No red, pink, bright or pastel colors (§2.1.5 e)
No glare finishes; bare Galvalume prohibited (§2.4.3 f)
Standing seam with no exposed fasteners (§2.4.3 e)
Vents and flues painted to the roof color (§2.4.3 g)
Gutters blend with the house, never "tacked on" (§2.4.6 b)

Hail re-roofs, and a second approval
NOAA logged baseball-size hail in Horseshoe Bay on Apr 9, 2024. Re-roofs here also go through committee review, and repairs over 25% of a roof need approval (§2.4.3 h, §5.2 a).

Long ridge runs move. Know how much first.
Standing-seam panels and ridge runs on Lake LBJ homes grow and shrink with Texas heat, and the dark Kynar the committee asks for runs much hotter than the air. Get the movement before the ridge and trim are formed, so the clip and slot detail on the drawings is sized to a real number.

An architectural review (or control) committee approves exterior changes before work starts. In Horseshoe Bay, roofs, re-roofs and exterior color or material changes go to the Architectural Control Committee before the City will issue a permit. We prepare the metal side of that package: shop drawing, color chart and manufacturer data.
Deed restrictions can limit roof materials and colors, so check the guide for the lot. In the Horseshoe Bay and Horseshoe Bay West standards, standing seam metal is a listed acceptable roof material, with conditions: no exposed fasteners, dark muted colors at LRV 35 or less, and no glare finishes such as bare Galvalume.
SMP (silicone-modified polyester) is a lower-cost paint system. Kynar 500 is a 70% PVDF resin system that holds its color and resists chalking far longer, and it is the finish most architectural specs call for. We fabricate trim and flashing in Kynar 500 colors so it matches PVDF roof panels.
Lighter colors reflect more. On the PAC-CLAD chart, Bone White has a solar reflectance of 0.70 and an SRI of 85, while Dark Bronze is 0.27 and 26. In Horseshoe Bay the committee caps roof colors at LRV 35, so the choice is among the darker browns and greys; compare their published SRI in the finish studio above.
Bare Galvalume is bright and can glare, which is why the Horseshoe Bay standards prohibit it as a roof finish. It also should not sit in contact with wet mortar or concrete, or take runoff from copper. Painted Kynar over a Galvalume substrate gives you the corrosion protection without the glare.
Copper lasts for decades and weathers to a patina, and the Horseshoe Bay standards allow copper for accents and decorative metal. It costs more than painted steel and must not be mixed with Galvalume or galvanized parts where runoff or contact would cause corrosion. Tell us the scope and we will quote it both ways.
On a standing seam roof, yes. The ridge cap closes the peak where the panels meet, sheds water over the panel ends and, with the right closures, keeps out wind-driven rain and pests. We form ridge cap to your pitch and panel in the matching Kynar color.
They can. A vented ridge uses a ridge cap over vented closures or a vent strip so air can leave the attic while water stays out. A non-vented ridge uses solid closures. Tell us which detail the drawings call for and we will form the cap and closures to match.
They can be when they are built badly. Box gutters sit inside the roof line, so a failed seam, undersized outlet or missing overflow leaks into the building. Built right, with sealed or soldered seams, enough slope and a planned overflow, they are a clean detail, and the committee prefers gutters that look built in. Start one in FlashDraft.
24 gauge is thicker and stiffer than 26 gauge, so it resists denting and oil canning better and is the usual choice for architectural standing seam. 26 gauge is common on lighter residential and exposed-fastener panels. We bend trim and flashing in the gauge your panel spec calls for.
