Gravel stops, fascia and edge metal: methods and worked application

Preparation, the five steps of Drexel's Gravel Stop guide, how Drip Edge and Fascia Cover LT differ, two worked examples (laying out a run between miters and counting cleat screws), and closing out the job.

You will be able to: Install a Drexel Gravel Stop run in the guide's order, lay out its straight lengths with the printed gap, and count fasteners and splice plates, recording each input, unit and assumption.

Before the first nail

Before the first nail, have the project specification, the approved shop drawings, the Drexel guide for the system delivered and the membrane maker's edge detail on the roof.

Where they disagree, stop and ask the designer and AFS before cutting anything.

Choose and set up the fall protection that 1926.501(b)(10) allows before anyone works at the edge.

What this video shows: Garland's own snap-on fascia: measurements, its cant dam, flashing membranes and installing the fascia cover. Garland's system and steps, not a Drexel edge: on a Drexel job the Drexel guide governs.

What this video shows: A membrane maker's drip edge detail: the metal edge set after the field membrane runs down the nailer face, then flashed with MuleHide's cover tape or cover strip. MuleHide's products and rules.

Glossary

Miter
The corner piece of an edge run; in the Drexel guides miters are installed after the cleat and before the straight lengths, with a splice plate under each end.
End cap and end term
The pieces that close the end of an edge run; in the Drexel guides they go on after the miters and before the straight lengths.
Pre-punched hole
A fastener hole punched in the cleat or flange before delivery; the Drexel guides fasten through these holes with the fasteners provided.
Water cut-off mastic
The sealant bed Drexel shows under the face of the Fascia Cover LT cleat, where the cleat sits on the roof membrane over the nailing plate.
