Fascia LT installation sequence

ANSI/SPRI/FM 4435/ES-1 edge system: 22 Gauge Cont Cleat, Snap-On Cover, 10' Lengths. 3", 4.5", 6", 8" faces.

Drexel guide (PDF)

This sequence follows Drexel Metals' published installation guide for the system. The project's specifications, the approved shop drawings and the roofing membrane manufacturer's requirements govern; where they differ, follow them and ask AFS. Step 1 of 4

Installing 22GA Galvanized Cleat

  1. Apply water cut-off mastic and place the face of the cleat squarely on the edge of the roof membrane, over the wood nailing plate.
  2. Press it firmly into position and screw through the pre-punched face holes.
  3. At a miter, miter-cut the cleat into the corner as required to keep a continuous cleat line, then fasten at a minimum 6" in each direction from the corner, or closer at special conditions.
  4. Butt the cleat ends and apply tube sealant over the butted ends.

As printed in the Drexel guide

“screw through the pre-punched face holes with #10-13x1" S.S. Panhead Woodscrews provided.”

Common mistakes this step guards against

  • Do not leave butted cleat ends unsealed - apply tube sealant over them.
  • Do not break the cleat line at a corner - miter-cut it so the line stays continuous.

Common mistakes

Each line is the reverse of an instruction the Drexel guide states.

  • Do not leave butted cleat ends unsealed - apply tube sealant over them. (step 1)
  • Do not break the cleat line at a corner - miter-cut it so the line stays continuous. (step 1)
  • Do not butt lengths tight - leave the 1/8" gap for thermal expansion. (step 4)
  • Do not leave a joint without a splice plate. (step 4)
  • Do not cut lengths that leave short sections next to each other. (step 4)

Notes printed on the guide

  1. Isolate all metal parts from ACQ-treated wood, or any other galvanically incompatible material, with an appropriate membrane.
  2. Appliance attachments - lightning rods, signs, antennae - that penetrate the water seal, set up a galvanic reaction or otherwise compromise the roof edge system are to be eliminated or isolated, per section 8.0 of ANSI/SPRI ES-1. Isolate appliances from the edge system or do not attach them to it; the lightning protection manufacturer gives the attachment instructions.

Printed on the section detail

  • Face height 8" max. / 3" min. (Fascia Cover LT print approval DM-15488)
  • #10-13x1" S.S. Panhead Woodscrew 12" on center through pre-punched cleat hole and membrane
  • Water cut-off mastic under the cleat face
